Ambassador Michael Imran Kanu is the Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations in New York, and also to the International Seabed Authority in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a Member of the Legal and Technical Commission of the International Seabed Authority for the 2023 to 2027 term, and Co-Chair of the Review Mechanism of the International Criminal Court and the Rome Statute system. He is also Vice-President of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court for its 23rd to 25th sessions.
From September 2018 to August 2023, Dr. Kanu served as Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative for Legal Affairs at the Permanent Mission of Sierra Leone to the United Nations in New York.
He holds a Doctor of Juridical Science in International Business Law from Central European University, completed between 2015 and 2018; a Master of Laws in International Business Law from Central European University, completed between 2014 and 2015; a Degree of Utter Barrister from the Sierra Leone Law School, completed between 2007 and 2008; and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, completed between 2003 and 2007.
He is a United Nations International Law Fellow and a Visiting Senior Fellow in Practice at the Law School of the London School of Economics and Political Science.
